Baccarat is one of the most elegant and simple card games in the casino, where luck and wagering play an important role. The player bets on the “player,” the “banker,” or the “draw,” and the player is not directly involved in the progress of the game itself. The rules are very simple: the player with the highest card total closest to 9 wins. The detailed rules of baccarat are explained below.
Purpose
The object of baccarat is to bet on the total score of the cards dealt that is closest to 9. Players wager on “Player,” “Banker,” or “Draw. The winner is the player whose total of cards dealt is closest to 9, and the wager is determined based on that result.
Card Score
- 2 to 9: The number on the card is the score.
- 10, J, Q, K (picture cards): all count as 0 points.
- A (ace): Counts as 1 point.
How to Calculate Scores
In baccarat, if the total score of the cards exceeds 9, the number minus 10 counts as the final score. For example, if 7 and 8 are dealt, the total is 15, but minus 10, which is 5 points.
Game Flow
- Placing a Wager Players wager on “Player,” “Banker,” or “Draw” before the game begins. If the player bets on “Player,” he or she bets that the player will win; if the player bets on “Banker,” he or she bets that the banker will win. If the player bets on “tie”, he/she will get a payout if both players have the same number of points.
- Cards are dealt The dealer deals two cards face up to each of the “player” and the “banker”. The dealer deals two cards to the player first, then two cards to the banker.
- The total score of the player’s and banker’s cards are compared, and the winner is the one whose score is closer to 9.
- If the first card dealt totals 8 or 9, it is called a “natural” and the game is won or lost at that point (or a tie if both players have a “natural”).
- Otherwise, an additional third card may be dealt (see “Third Card Rule” below).
- Rules for the third card The first two cards dealt to the player and the banker determine whether a third card is dealt.
- The third rule on the player’s side:
- If the player’s first two cards total between 0 and 5 points, the player draws a third card.
- If the player’s total is 6 or 7 points, the player stands as is without drawing a third card (the banker may draw a card).
- If a player’s total is 8 or 9 points, the winner is determined at that point as a natural.
- Third card rule on the banker’s side (slightly more complicated): Whether the banker draws a third card depends on the total score of the banker’s hand and the third card drawn by the player.
- If the banker’s total is less than 2 points, the banker always draws a third card.
- If the banker’s total is 3 points, the banker draws a third card unless the player’s third card is an 8.
- If the banker’s total is 4 points, the banker draws a third card if the player’s third card is any of 2-7.
- If the banker’s total is 5 points, the banker draws a third card if the player’s third card is any of 4-7.
- If the banker’s total is 6 points, the banker draws a third card if the player’s third card is a 6 or 7.
- If the bunker total is 7 points, the bunker stands.
- The third rule on the player’s side:
- Determination of Winner After the third card is drawn, the final card totals are compared, and the winner is the one closest to 9. If the side the player bets on (player or banker) wins, a payout is paid for the wager. If the player bets on a tie, he or she will receive a higher payout in the event of a tie.
Betting Dividends
- Player wins: 1x the wager is paid.
- Banker wins: pays 1x your wager, but if the banker wins, the casino usually deducts **5%** of the winnings as a commission (which is 0.95x the payout).
- Draw: pays 8 or 9 times ( depending on the casino) the wager.
result of a victory or defeat
- Player Wins: The person who bets on the player wins and gets back double the amount of his or her wager.
- Banker win: The person who bets on the banker wins and the payout is 0.95x.
- Tie: Those who bet on a tie receive the higher payout. If you do not bet on a tie, your wager is returned.
summary
Baccarat is a game with simple rules, yet offers a competitive game based on the total score of the cards. Since the player is not directly involved in the game progression, the game is a test of luck and can be enjoyed purely for the outcome of the bet.
